Plans are set for the first Summerfest July 24 and the third annual Street Vault.
Summerfest got its start when Brooke Demo decided to continue holding the Street Vault, which had previously been a part of Prairie Port.
With the formation of that event, the day’s activities were expanded to include a variety of events.
The Street Vault will begin at noon in the 200 block of North Main Street. Last year’s event consisted of 50 pole vaulters and more than 1,000 spectators throughout the day.
This year, the first competition is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. and will include three different sections, with the less experienced vaulters in the first section, more experienced athletes in the second section and then the elite section. The sections will be released on July 21.
Demo said they are predicting the event will end around 10 p.m.
The event will include a fast, slightly downhill board runway. There also will be live music for part of the evening and free give-aways for the crowd.
Those interested must register by July 19. To register, visit www.eldoradovault.webs.com or contact Demo at brookedemo@yahoo.com or 322-3889. The registration cost is $25 and will include a t-shirt. Those who register after July 19 will have a $10 late fee. The money raised will go to the El Dorado High School pole vault program to purchase new equipment. Those under age 18 will have to have a parent/guardian sign a liability form.
In addition to the vaulting, the El Dorado Fire Department will host a water brigade/water fight in the YMCA parking lot at noon. Then from 2 to 4 p.m. there will be a free swim at the YMCA.
Several competitions also will be a part of the day, including a pie bake-off from 2 to 4 p.m., with a trophy presented to the winner; a hot dog eating contest at 4 p.m.; a Battle of the Bands contest that will begin at 6 p.m.; and a ice cream makin competition. There also will be vendor booths set up selling various items.

Perfect example of why you shouldn't put your elite comp last...

I disagree it is cooler in the evening and we had shade from the buildings at 7 pm. It could rain anytime of the day.
A great street vault that is done right.

Re: El Dorado street vault- part 3, 2010!!!!!
Kevin,
I am sorry to say we will not have the El Dorado street vault in 2011. Brooke is up at Kent State Coaching. Wichita State is having USATF JR. Olympics that same weekend and i will be helping with the vault over there. Kids don't want to help do anything and, it is a-lot of work. Maybe we can resume the fun in 2012. Did you ever find the 13' 145 you were looking for?
