Vaulter => Decathalete and vice versa

Is this a common thing.. vaulters go into college as just a vaulter and shift to decath.. and decathaletes change over to just vaulting..

i'm asking because i'm now going to be training as a decath and i didnt know if it was a common transition or if anyone has any thought on the topic

Yeah it is quite common. Especially with like 15'+ guys going to college because they are usually pretty fast and coordinated and can pick up on other events. And if you got a big strong guy jumping over 15 then most college coaches are like, that is high enough for the Dec so we can just spend a lot of time on the other events and not have to teach someone how to pole vault.
