THANK YOU, for one of the best posts in a very, very, very long time.
4 years ago, pole vault was almost non existent at our club. Had a nice pit, but only 1 pole worth using for 13-14 year old vaulter, and it was not used very much. I was co-coaching middle an long distance running, as well as cross country (it was so much easier keeping slim then ). Then we got a fuel injection in the form of a two time olympian pole vaulter.
We now have the best overall pole vault group of 13-20 year old vaulters in Denmark. I also have the skinny kid, that got tired of running long intervals, that has been so committed from day one. He's still skinny, but his running form now resembles a sprinter (when he joined the pv group, was he running more like a 35 year old female marathon runner). He's still skinny, but he has become strong in all aspects, and recently vaulter 3,45m. He turns 15 later this year.
My own son just turned 17. He was doing all kind of things, even a bit of vaulting, but could barely do 2m. Cross contry, sprints, longjump and javelin.
He did 4,60m last weekend.
I owe everything to Wojciech, and I love what he has done to my coaching, and to the group of kids we share.
