Pole vault pit in my backyard??

Unread postby JSmitty » Wed May 20, 2009 8:36 pm

Alright, so I am seriously considering putting in a pole vault pit behind my house this summer for some extra practice in the off-season. I have the space and resources to make it happen, but I would like to hear from some of you guys if you have any ideas on how to construct a solid runway and plant box, if someone has done it please help me out! Thanks!!!

This has been covered a number of times on the forum. So, with some searching you can find a whole bunch of info that will help you get it done. One option for a runway base is spelled out on my myspace site on the slide show. That address is
http://www.myspace.com/mikesoulewyomingmn. You can also see more,http://www.bubbapv.com/Pages/BYVault.htm . I've got mine on Bubba's website (before I put a board base under the rubber run way) at http://www.bubbapv.com/Pages/BYVault-Mike.htm
What part of the country are you in? That would be helpful to know in the event that one of us that has put one in might have extra stuff laying around that could maybe be available to you. Later...........Mike

I started with a wood runway. I now have a concrete runway covered with mondo, I think it's the best way to go. It's 4' wide 120' long and I made the expantion joints every 10' .

You could build a simple elevated runway with plywood on top of pressure treated outdoor wood with center struts for stability. You could then cover it with a rubber runway. I think this would be the cheepest way to go and easy to remove should you need to.
