Wats happening to the Aggies? It's nearly the end of the second quarter and Texas Tech is up by 24.

Rainbow,
We speak all the time, and email back and 4th.
No question in my mind the best guy ever....based upon his take off angle. To have been that small and jump 17'11'' in HS, and 19' later. He was incrediably fast, and also jumped up well.
When I was coaching at LSU in the early '80's he learned giants, free hips, high starts and piroett's all in the space of about 3 sessions. It was uncanny.~jj~

aggies got what they deserved

Unread postby ~jj~ » Sun Oct 05, 2003 9:41 am

Well I'm an Alabama grad, and A&M stole our coach last year, and then hired your boy (WSU) Mike (the stripper chaser) Price  . As you know he never coached a game for the Tide. :dazed:
Oooooops!
So I kind of hope the aggies suffer for a while.
See ya!

Hey now Jan!

We don't need any of your hoping. We are hurting bad enough as it is! I tried to watch the game last night, but it was much too painfull. All I have to say is we had better beat Baylor next week, or you can have your darn coach back!

I think the bulldogs did a pretty good job of rolling all over the Tide! I was at a wedding reception during the first half of the game (seriously, who gets married on a gameday???) but managed to escape in time to catch the second half of the game. Wasn't as pretty as the first, but a victory is a victory :P

bulldogs and tide

Unread postby ~jj~ » Sun Oct 05, 2003 5:15 pm

Yea! I hate the Bulldogs too! :dazed:
They leave soooo much poopoo around :P
Alas, gone are the gold old days of the seventies, when the Tide ruled, and coach Bryant sat on the NCAA rules enforment committee.
Now if I come to find out that Mr Bartalena is a Sooners fan, his wife seems to be a A&M fan(?)....... That means, I have lost something to each of you. My ego is crushed! I'll probably need to take another prozac.
:)
Kidding!
How do you like my new photo?
Its fall here, and the Tarantula's (sp?) are our walking all over the place. So I took the oppertunity to take one's picture.

Is Aggieville east TX?

Unread postby ~jj~ » Sun Oct 05, 2003 5:33 pm

I am so sorry. In an earlier posting, I may have refered to Aggieland as in 'East Texas'. I would hereby like to assure our readership that although it appears to be in the Eastern portion of Texas, it is actually nearer to Conroe. The home of Dave Roberts.
Sincerely,
~jan johnson~

;)
I smell a small wager coming regarding the Horns and A&M.
Points anyone?

all hail the cowboys and girls

Unread postby ~jj~ » Sun Oct 05, 2003 8:11 pm

Mr Barto,
I appreciate your OK ST Heritage.
I'm soooo happy your not a Sooner fan.
I dislike the Sooners almost as much as Nebraska.
Hail to the Cowboys and girls.
Getting back on the subject, Joe D must have jumped his age many times!! I sent him Rachel Viau (13' HS) a year ago and he has done a super good job with her. :)
I know he jumped 17' as a junior. But I know little else about his progression. Perhaps you can update us.
Tell you bride that I can easily put together an nice package for Mike Price, If the A$M alumni grow tired of the Italian. :D

Joe's birthday is in Oct, so he was still 18 the whole summer after his Sr. year. I'm not sure about 13, but he jumped his age every year from 14 to 18! To my knowledge, he is the only American to do it. Knowing his dad, I would not be suprised if he jumped his age at 12 and 13 also.

In today's world of jumbo sized everything, I think alot of young vaulters are discouraged if they are not 6' and 180#. They need to watch films of Joe, Dup, Huffman, Vigneron, Collet, Hodge, Buckiingham, hell....Jan was not a big guy. It is much more about speed and technique than height and weight. Joe demonstrated that.

Barto.

Ya don't have to huge.
Speed and jumping up ability. Those are the real keys. Any good athlete can learn the technique. Like Dean always says; pole vaulting is a power event.
I'm only 5'10.
Ran 10.54auto, and long jumped every single meet in both HS and college, 22'10" in HS and 25'4 in college. I also ran on a couple of very fast 4x100 relays in college and a 1:27.1 4 x 220y relay in HS that made the national list. I loved to sprint. It was really my first love.
;)
