First Ever Rock Vault????

Unread postby indestructo » Mon Sep 08, 2003 8:56 am

I am putting together a proposal to take in front of the Common Ground Festival in Lansing, MI to add a street vault to the week long festival.... Due to the fact that there is a Beach vault happening in Grand Haven the weekend of the festival, I am going to look to have it during the week. (wed - thurs)

Here's the twist. They have big name bands playing those days, to the likes of 3 Doors Down, Our Lady Peace, Meatloaf, travis tritt, johny lang, the allman brothers, boston, etc... Sell out crowds everyday of 10-12,000 people to 2 main stages along the Grand River in Adado Riverfront Park.

My question to anyone who'll answer is.... Whats your opinions on jumping during, or as part of, a major rock concert?? Would that be too much distraction??? Or would the music and the crowd fire ya up that much more???

This is all just speculation right now, all suggestions and opinions are more then welcome. This would occur 2nd week of July(wed-thurs), with the beach vault on (fri-sat)....

How close would the vaulting be to the concert?

I set up a board vault in Indy AT the Dave Matthews concert. We vaulted during the opening act (dont remember who it was). We were off to the side behind the stage, this is where all the spectators entered the grounds. It was an awsome time and we got VIP passes to the rest of the concert.

I haven't talked to the big dogs at Common Ground yet, so I'm not sure yet. I would like to get in close..... I predict that they'll be expanding the festival grounds for next year. The crowds were much greater then they were expecting. I'm hoping that'll boost the amount space for the concerts. But, there is a nearby street available as well as park grounds that may be available.

What runway would you use?? The Ypsi one, the Grand Haven one, the one being built by Michiana Truss or do you have one of your own.

we'll be building one similar to the grand haven runway. simple design, sturdy and fast...

How does the Michiana Truss design differ from the grand haven runway??

Its designed after the one from Indy. Only lighter. The trick to "fast" it the boards AND the runway surface. If its not glued down its not AS fast as it could be. You could talk to Pat O'Keefe over at Michiana about it, hes the one building the runway.

Yes, thats one of the items I noticed at the beach vault was that the rollout surface was not glued down and did flex noticable. I will hafta try to get ahold of him then and see what he's got going on there.

I have a few contacts at MSU already that I will be talking to for assistance with this project. And of course, the vaulters and coaches at MSU, will be some of the first to know when this thing comes together.

Theres a exhibition in Phoenix they have evry year called, Big Boys and Their Toys! ITs inside these two HUGE buildings, kinda like reno. They have evrything a big boy would want to buy, from sports cars to monster trucks to golf clubs to baby pit bulls. Ive been trying to get the vault set up for the 2 days that it will be there next summer. It would be an awsome place to vault, and theres usually millions of people that show up. Some loud music, rowdy fans and great atmosphere. Should be awsome if it can get accepted. Ill keep you guys posted, and if it does get accepted Ill set up a link to the entry form. All the sky athletic jumpers would probably jump. Hysong, dragila, etc... it would be a great fundraiser.
Just fly high, and KISS THE SKY!!!
