18-year old Raphael Holzdeppe of Germany tied Maksim Tarasov's Junior (under 20) WR from back in '89 today.

He opened at 18'0 1/2".

thats INSANE!!! I looked into him on iaaf.org he has until September 28, 2008 to break the record. PR going into this year appears to be only 550... MONSTER PR.

He can break it through Dec 31, 2008. Official junior records can only be set in years that you don't turn 20. I think that makes Tarasov's 5.80 that much more impressive since he was born in December...effectively losing out on an entire season of junior eligibility for being born a month too early...He was only 20 for 29 days of '90 but ineligible for junior records because of it.

I'm an idiot... I thought that he was going to be 20 this year. However, that is interesting info that I didn't know about the calender year logistics, and how studly Tarasov was.

he switched over to carbon poles in the recent months. he is on the new 4b carbon weave series
