good morning
when the women’s vault was introduced and/or around the time Stacy jump the first 15 foot jump, i did a study. (is anyone surprised!!!) I seek calculated numbers not mom-bo-jom-bo…
i took the top 20 men’s and women’s long jumps from the current worlds list and did an average. i took the top 20 men’s and women’s 100m times and did an average.
i took the top 20 men’s pole vauters and did an average.
i did a formula.. and calculated the numbers..
the data showed that the women’s world record should be 17'3" given time for them to catch up..
i shared that with steve chappell at the time.. and we commonly repeat that story when we are at meets at the same time, as recently as the mt sac relays this year during the women’s vault, actually wondering when they will actually catch up or if we are sincerely approaching the womens vault agresssively enough.

Re: Vault Height to Long Jump Distance
Pole vault: 4.70m (15' 5")
Long jump: 7.02m (23')
According to some tables, my long jump was good enough for vaulting around 5.50m (18'). This just shows how bad was my technique.
