what i do to get over the wind is to count my steps foward instead of backwards.... meaning, start at a number like 100 and run 6 steps foward, subtrack that number from 100 and add the distance from where you take off. this means you get your step running into the wind!

i always didnt see the benifit of running back steps when there is a tail wind because you would get a tail wind running your steps back and a head wind when you accualy jump...

it also seems better to keep a shorter run when running into the wind because there is less room for error.

When you first enter a new facility or go out side, even though you may be ready to go and vault high your brain is picking up on the subtly that you may miss, for example the space from you to the box may appear different, and the sides of the runway. What is behind the pit, more light…

The first time I go to a new place with something obviously different my coach has me walk down the runway 10-20 times with a pole in my hands just to practice getting the look of the new surroundings in my head. Going out side there is going to be conditions that you need to get used to. Start with 1 - 2 - 3 lefts just pushing against the wind.
