Straight pole takeoff drills...
Measure the difference between their standing Grip Heighth (how high they can reach on a pole standing straight up) and how high they can hold and get into the pit from a 6 step approach. Good guys can go at least 5' girls about 4' 6". The higher the better....My club all time higherst was 6'6" for boys and 4' 10" for girls.

Figure 13.15 on page 118 of Beginner to Bubka is a perfect example of what I look for in good sand vaulting/grass vaulting and it should be the same for this drill into the pit.
I actually like this photo sequence better than the illustration on page 111. I blew up this photo sequence and will be handing it out to all of my high schoolers on the first day of practice. It is what we will spend the first two weeks working on.
