Terry Cannon - M70 WR

Unread postby master » Mon Feb 11, 2008 3:50 pm

On Sunday, February 10th at Billy Baker's Kelso indoor vault meet, Terry first jumped 3.16m to set a new American record. This broke Boo Morcom's record of 3.15m. Boo jumped this on 8 Jan, 1993. Terry then jumped 3.23m to set a new World Record. This broke Robert Brown's record of 3.20m. Robert is from GBR and the record was made on 15 Feb, 2003 in Glasgow.

Congratulations to Terry.

I never thought that record would be broken, but Terry has been more than capable. He's ageless at 70. We should all be so lucky. Congrats Terry!! Bubba

He really is ageless. I would have guessed he was in his 60s.

Good point Becca. I saw him nearly make 12' 6" in his 60s at UC Irvine. Then I had breakfast with him in Hawaii at USATF Masters in 2005 and he didn’t look any different than he did at Irvine seven years earlier. Fantastic guy too. Bubba

Wow...thanks folks. Now i need to concentrate on getting upside

Champ,

Congratulations, on your great jumps, your technique looks very good. I used to jump with Terry for years in San Diego. He has great technique with a great run and takeoff, plus I really enjoyed jumping with him. Terry was also a multiple national champion in the 300 hurdles. He did not start pole vaulting until he was 55 years old (incredible). After his 12’6â€
