Manning soars to pole vault crown

Arrin Manning wasn’t given the opportunity to try something different when she first joined the New Canaan High School girls’ indoor track and field team during her freshman year. She was curious about the pole vault, but was told her size wouldn’t allow her to accomplish anything outstanding in the event.

Now a senior co-captain for the Rams, Manning captured the FCIAC pole vault championship with a vault of 8 feet, 6 inches at last Saturday’s conference meet at Staples High School. How’s that for outstanding?
