Pole vault landing systems
Pole vault landing systems
I am planning to purchase a landing system for my daughter (freshman -high school). I would like some guidance regarding the different brands- they all say they are the best! The prices vary significantly, from Altius to portapit to UCS. Any takers?

Here is a link for an Elite Pit dealer:

The link for pits/poles is like half way do the page. there is also a contact number at the end of the price list.
I am not a fan of MF Athletics' pits. One of the other schools in our conference got one a at the start of the 2004 season and it is still the hardest pit i have ever jumped on AFTER three seasons of use!
MF athletics pits have changed names since then to "First Place". I dont know if they are any better now, but they were rather uncomfortable to compete on.

I'd personally recommend Richey pits made by Max Richey. He's a local Indiana pit and standard maker. He's a little pricey, but he makes quality stuff. He made all our pits and standards at Purdue and they last forever.
I don't have a contact number for him at the moment, but can probably dig one up....

I really like "BTA" pits. They're in Houston and really high quality. UT had this brand for years until they hosted the NCAA's and UCS gave them free ones. I believe UCLA has them also. Usually very good prices too.

You should check out PR sports Eddie sells gill pits at a very low price. We got a pit from him a few years back and saved about $4,000. He doesn't have the prices on his site but they are very low so you should call him. When I bought our pit it was the year before the pit size rule change and instead of selling me a pit that would have become illegal he advized me about the rule change other companies didn't.
