And a second miss for Isi.

The IAAF radio folk are going on and on about Isi being in "shared" first place. Am I confused about the rules or are they? Doesn't Pyrek's miss at 4.77 along with Isi's clearance there put her alone in first?

No, they are tied. They both cleared the 4.82 on first attempt. Below that height they both have one miss. The height of the misses doesn't matter except for at the tie-ing height.

Now they talk as if the competition is over. I think they should be getting a fourth attempt at 4.87, then continue until the tie is broken.

Oh ... it is a jump-off. Isi cleared 4.87 for the first time.

So now Pyrek needs to set another PB and NR to keep 1st.

And Pyrek missed. They also say Pyrek got a shot at 4.92 earlier. So if that's all correct, then here's the final scoresheet:

Code: Select all

Pos Athlete             440 450 460 467 472 477 482 487 492 487
7   Silke SPIEGELBURG   xo  o   xxo xxx

6   Katerina BADUROVA   o   o   xxo xxx
4   Tatyana POLNOVA     o   o   xxo xxo xxx
3   Svetlana FEOFANOVA  o   o   xo  xo  o   -   xo  xxx
5   Yuliya GOLUBCHIKOVA o   xo  o   x-
1   Yelena ISINBAEVA    -   -   -   xo  -   o   o   -   xxx o
2   Monika PYREK        o   -   o   -   o   x-  o   xxx x   x

Alright, after some discussion over on the T&FN board (here), I'm pretty sure Pyrek didn't really take a shot at 4.92, so the scoresheet really looks like so:

Code: Select all

Pos Athlete             440 450 460 467 472 477 482 487 492 487
7   Silke SPIEGELBURG   xo  o   xxo xxx
8   Vanessa BOSLAK      xxo -   xxo -   xxx
6   Katerina BADUROVA   o   o   xxo xxx
4   Tatyana POLNOVA     o   o   xxo xxo xxx
3   Svetlana FEOFANOVA  o   o   xo  xo  o   -   xo  xxx
5   Yuliya GOLUBCHIKOVA o   xo  o   x-
1   Yelena ISINBAEVA    -   -   -   xo  -   o   o   -   xxx o
2   Monika PYREK        o   -   o   -   o   x-  o   xxx     x

Just for the record, the IAAF live scoring is still showing Pyrek's last X in the 4.92 column, but I'm pretty sure that's incorrect (and possibly the source of the radio announcers' misstatement). It's even possible that the scoresheet software doesn't have provision for having no mark in the 4.92 cell for Pyrek, although I think they could've put a '-' there and it would be less confusing.

And as I commented over on the T&FN board, it was good to hear Isi sound so excited afterward. Like she got a kick out of having a jump-off.

Over the last 5-10 minutes, they have shown a few of the women's pole vault jumps on WCSN. Because they weren't the winning jumps, I would expect them to show more of the jumps as fill in between live events.

Polish National Record

Unread postby roger/over » Sat Sep 22, 2007 7:00 pm

Thanks to Bruce for posting the score-sheets and help with resolving the tie. However, he also wrote:

"Oh yeah ... Monika's 4.82 is also the Polish NR."

That's a PB for Monika, but the national record is currently held by Anna Rogowska at 4.83, which she cleared in winning at Bruxelles on 26 August 2005. Not to minimize Monika's contributions to the record book: She set her first Polish record at 3.20 in 1996 and improved or tied the outdoor record another 39 times, to 4.72, before Rogowska captured it at 4.76 and raised it, in all, five times to date.

Yeah, I realized it awhile later, but forgot to correct my faux pas. Sorry 'bout that. :o
