vaultmd back in the game!

Unread postby vaultmd » Mon Jul 23, 2007 3:18 am

Just wanted to let everyone know that after a long layoff I competed in a sanctioned meet today at Granada HS in Livermore. At the same meet, Yoo Kim took shots at the Korean National Record (unsuccessfully) and Paul Sinatra took shots at his age group record (also unsuccessfully).

I came from 8 steps (4 lefts) gripping 11'9 on a 13' roughly 150 ESSX pole and cleared 305 (roughly 10'). The last miss was a major blow-through, so I'm really encouraged by this. Although 10 from 8 extrapolates to a pretty good jump from a real run, this won't happen any time soon, as I haven't done much of anything in several years and couldn't handle the shock of moving back. I'm pretty confident I can do 11' from 8 or even 6 soon.

Many thanks to the gang at Tri-Valley for hosting the meet and for the dinner afterwards.

Awesome Wilson! I'm glad I leave your age group next year. I remember the last time you got serious you were over 14' all the time. Congrats and welcome back stud!! Bubba

Hey Wilson, Congratulations  I'm looking forward to jumping with you at a meet sometime. Ramp up your efforts slowly and I'll bet you'll be back to form soon... uhh... that is if the wedding doesn't get in the way ;)

Wilson
Really great to hear that you are back, isn't it amazing how much harder it gets each year, to continue to vault, so way to go getting back in the game. Hell, because of injuries I have been reduced to vaulting left handed, so you know what ever it takes, just do it. Good luck with your comeback.

Thanks guys.

I think my take off is better now. I think I forgot a few bad habits over the years. Surprisingly, nothing hurts in a bad sort of way (knock on side of head).

It's gonna be nice having Tye just 70 miles away . . .

Well, it's day 3 post-jumping and no part of my body has seized up yet. I might be in the clear . . .

So you thought I was joking?

Delayed onset muscle soreness is the rule, not the exception, when you're 50 and haven't done jack in a while.
