Pole = 4.90 - 188.50lbs
My Weight = 168lbs
Grip = 15'04.00
Bar = 5.50m.
I would guess most guys who clear right at 18'0, are probably split half on 4.90's and half on 5.00m. Once you get people clearing 18'6 and up I would guess about 75% or more are jumping on 5.00m poles. Of course it's more about hand grip than anything; the higher sail piece on the 5.00m poles has an effect but I would say the hand grip is the biggest determinate, meaning that most people who jump 18'6-19'0, grip above 16' and therefore have to use a 5.00m - 5.10m pole to be able to grip that high. And as most other people said I would guess typically jump on poles 15-30lbs over their weight.

I don't think that there is any typical or average pole length for 18'+ vaulters. Everyone is a little different. People have used anywhere from 15'6" to 18'1" poles to jump over 18' (yes a frenchman did jump on a 5.50/18'1" pole) Just depends on the vaulter and the conditions.
Don't focus to much on wieght (flex actually) because my coach jumped 5.50 for the first time on a pole UNDER his wieght.

Who was that? thats nuts
and did he cap it?
in addition, surely somebody has used a 15'er to do it
Tim Mcmicheal told me he jumped 18ft at earl bells once on a 15ft pole, so earl gave him the pole. and im sure greg duplantis could jump 18ft on a 15ft pole.

Not for sure but it maybe Kollet or Bellot, I will drop an email to the boys at UCS and my coach to find out.
