When will Tommy S. go pro?

hes a jr right? how much would one more year of college cost? 5k at the most (instate). you dont think hed make that much right away? how long did bubka stay in college? none at all. TS has the potential to go big time. why not get all he can NOW? hurts himself next year working on his ba (which dosent mean squat these days). that wouldnt be smart. he can make $$$ now. he doesent need a degree. he can finish that when ever he wants. trust me. look up how much fresh grads are making. better have a comp sci or eng. degree if you plan to make alot of $$$.

Well there you go. If you had the talent to be a world class vaulter you would do it and be making more than you would have with only your degree. I myself have a CS degree and have been working in the field for over 5 years. To me, if I had the talent to go pro I would want a degree to fall back on when I am finished competing. A BA/BS degree might not seem like a whole lot now since everyone pretty much has one but you are not going to have a chance at a decent job for the rest of your life without one.

Engineering yes. My company starts first year EITs at $48K. CS no, unless you want to move to India. I think CS may be the only field that has seen salaries go down over the past few years. THere's still plenty of IT jobs but not like around '00. It's a lot more competitive for those positions thus salaries are lower. I outsource low level IT stuff overseas so I know. I'm part of that problem. Ha!

Comp sci majors are right up there w/ your engineers at $50k. just dont forget the accounting majors when you talk about top salaries!!!

Plus, you arent part of the problem. the problem is that people are majoring in a field that is being increasingly outsourced. they are choosing the wrong major if they want to have secure job! (and i realize there is more to a major/career choice than job security)

I think Tommy is smart enough to figure it out for himself. I've always thought he would be the next vaulter to jump 20 even when he was 13 and jumpin at Rick's.

Just because you take a full schedule doesn't mean you'll graduate in four years. That's actually not as common as you'd think. People switch majors, fail classes, etc and take longer than four years all the time. Collegiate athletes often stay in college five years because of redshirting. AND, collegians who are done with eligibility will sometimes finish their degree without being on the school's team.

I am a college grad so i know. But why will it take him 5? If his gpa wasnt good enough (failing classes) he wouldnt be on the team. he didnt redshirt (thats for football guys). Still, dont college athlete HAVE to take a full load?

you might want to check it out bro. you have to have a full load. (12-15 hrs i think). your gpa cant get below 2.0 (might be higher). and how do you think you get credits? you take a "full load". you cant be a college athlete and take one class a semester.

You usually have to have at least 124 hours to graduate. Taking the minimum of 12 hours a semester (don't know nuthin' about that quarter nonsense) it'll take you at least 10 semesters or 5 years to graduate. Change your major once and you can easily take on 2-3 additional semesters.
