pole vaulting seems to be such a big sport in other states... i was just wondering if there are any pole vaulters in this forum that are in michigan, because personally, in michigan pole vaulting is like unheard of (ok thats exaggerating) but i am just curious.

Well finally there's someone else in here from michigan. I hear ya. There isn't much big in vaulting here. Hey maybe we should start something??? There's a lot of talent in MI I know that for sure, just not a lot of exposure.

Mr. SWTVAULT himself, Geoff Fairbanks is a Michiganite. Used to train with Coach Oran Mitchell, who was here at my house in San Marcos, TX two days ago visiting. If you're from Michigan and don't know Oran, you're missing out. He's a great old guy and a very successful coach.

I've meet Oran on a few occassions in high school. I hope to get down to his facilities a few times when I start getting back to vaulting next summer... Yeah he is an excellent coach. Jim Gardner was another fine coach from Grand Rapids, though he passed away 3-4yrs ago, but his program I believe is still going strong there.

I am really surprised to hear yall say MI is lacking in vaulting. There is a wealth of knowledge at your disposal, you just have to know where to look. Oran, is an example, as well as Wes Teeple, and Ron Gebauer. All these guys have had people jump high every year. Look them up if you get a chance.

at my hs we got a pretty good pole vault program. last year we had the michigan state champ and he got then new state record. (14-9),(hs AA) who taught me to vault. theres allot of hs vaulters around where i live, and my hs is one of the best vaulting schools in the state. i think its pretty popular where i live.

14'9 is a FAR cry from the state record in Michigan. Indoors its 16'4 and outdoors its 16'9.
