COLLEGE, if I didn't have to go to class or do homework or study or take tests, being a pole vaulter would be easy.

I have to agree with SlickVT on this one....... The clap can really be a great thing, it gets you going and just makes things more fun. When your having fun while you vault you avoid the worst distraction of all...... thinking about the vault. I hate to parot nike, but just do it.

[I do understand that some people don't like it for themselves, but don't knock those that get pumped from it. ;) ]

I think if you are jumping college level and up...even if you dont like the clapping, vaulters are good enough that they can just ignore it. The problem I hear from my vaulters is that people dont know how to clap to where it helps you.

in my opinion the clap is simply for the fans and not the vaulters. it helps the crowd get involved and show support and calls the attention of others at the meet to watch the jump. i feel sorry for any vaulter that needs extrinsic motivation.

The clap, I believe, is just another version of the wave except there is no standing and sitting. It makes the crowd feel that is it apart of the competition! :idea:
