Is there a rule that states that you must run before take-off ? If not, this could be a valid 4.60m skate&jump from Baptiste Boirie :

This guy also jumped 5.50 a month ago using a 4.60 pole (15"), which is also worth the trip :

PS: my apologies if that's the wrong forum, I wasn't sure where I should post this...

Re: skate run-up
Okay so personally I think this is sooo awesome... I've been wanting to do something like this for a while now. The only thing that's been stopping me is the fear that I might mess up my pole by whatever I was riding running into it, but either way i still want to try this
(coach)Why did you run through?(me)Ummm.........cross wind?(coach)"Oh okay"

Re: skate run-up
On the subject of other ways to jump, back in the late 70's Steve Smith took some big jumps 16'-17' range from a skateboard on a slight downhill approach. Cant find the video but it was crazy, awesome, scary and just outrageous. Would love to see it again if anyone could drag it up.
