It helps me when I vault to look at the top of my pole.

I wanted to give everyone an update on how my season is going.. I started pole vaulting a month ago.. last time I was on here my PR was 9'-0". As of now, and 2 days away from Sectionals, I am nearly at 10'-0".

Quick question: The higher the pole is, should the standards come closer? I am getting some pretty good bend now. During my last attempt at 10'-0", I knocked it off with my quads on the way down.. so that means move closer, right?

Besides pole vault, our 4x100 relay team is currently ranked top 3 in the state. We broke our school's 25 year old record at conference, then broke it again on Monday. My brother also broke a 50 year old 100m dash record with a time of 10.74.

Overall, our team is going for a Sectional title against our rivals. It has also been about 22 years since claiming a title.

I'm sure there are a couple better authorities on this point, and I hope they'll correct me if I'm wrong, but you would have never been able to find Bubka using anything closer than maybe 10cm from the max during a competition, unless of course there was a strong headwind... That's the time to move in your standards a little bit (if you're still able to roll your pole over safely!!!). Like I've mentioned before, don't practice with your standards less than maybe 5cm short of the competition max. This helps train your swing! If you're not rotating the pole as well as before, it's because you don't have the energy to do it, or if you do, it's not being transferred in a way so that enough of it can be used effectively.
