What is the difference between UCS/Spirit and Pacer. I am asking this because I might be transfering colleges next year. Going from UCS to Pacer. I prefer Spirit.

regardless of people saying there is no difference in poles, or that certain tests prove whatever, i believe that there is a difference when you use different poles. Pacers, from experience, tend to be a little harder to get into and when you do they are a little slower in their reaction. Honestly, spirits are the way to go if you can, if it fits your needs. Just my input...there is another topic "spirt vs. pacer" that adresses this topic, you might want to read through some of that...there is some good information

That comment about Spirits versus Pacer is more than likely based on pre-FX testing and design (2 yr old or older designs)- harder getting into and slower coming back doesn't mesh up quite right either - but are we talking carbon or regular glass - whats available and works best for you is usually the driving factor unless you have the means to get whatever you what or need. Spirits will soften up some initially so bear that in mind

Dave it will feel a little different at first, but you will get used to it and appreciate the fact that Dick will have all the poles you need

i was just speaking from experience with the pacers i've used....they were a bit older, so i'm not sure how things have changed...I know about the studies and tests that have been run, but from my experience, with older pacer III's , the pole seems like right at the very initial part of the plant, it like is kinda stiff, but the softens....just my experience though...

I think comparing pacer IIIs to newer Spirits is like comparing apples to oranges. The technology has really improved since the original pacers. Also, I think most of the difference is just psychological and for some reason people prefer one over the other. I like Pacer Carbons b/c of the lighter weight and its what my coach buys. It seems to me like if one brand is distinctly better then the other then wouldn't all the elite vaulters use it?
Lastly, has anyone here ever jumped on Nordic poles? I'm just curious to how they compare.
On second thought maybe Becca should lock this post before it becomes another Spirit vs. Pacer debate

Which pole is better, spirit or pacer..... Neither is better in my view. Most of my views are in the debate.
Don't forget EssxSport. If you haven't jumped on them you should give them a try. EB designed them and I stand behind him all the way.
We have a fiew nordics hanging around, and they work alright as well. I belive gustavo jumped 5.3?m on one as a freshman at ASU.
I don't buy into the "one pole is faster" than the other. It is strange but in my expierence most people tend to think the opposite of what has been posted here.
I love that everyone here is sharing info, but as far as jumping high goes the brand of your poles is not the answer.

It is unlikely that one pole is better than the others. I think the makers know there isn't, and I also think that if there is one greatest pole then everyone would use that brand of pole. When it comes down to it, like all other things, it's about money.

I, as i'm sure you've all read, am a large supporter of spirit poles. In my opinion though, if you're meant to jump high, you will jump high regardless. I have just been "raised" on spirits, and have grown accustomed to them and feel they are a great product. Thats just my opinion, take it as you will.
