Getting tape off of poles
Are there any wise folk on here that no tricks to peeling old tape off of poles in preperation of re taping them? And advice would be appraceiated!

If it's an old wrap that is dry and peeling, get a paint scraper and scrape it off. You can take a rag and some acetone to clean up the residue.
If it's a newer wrap that is still sticky, it's going to take more work. Peel off what you can, then use some acetone to loosen the sticky glue, and a paint scraper to help pry up the edges, and try to get it to come off in chunks. It's going to be a sticky mess, but eventually you can get it all off and clean.
It's generally pretty time consuming either way, though I prefer the old dry poles over a sticky wrap.

I have had success with duct tape in the past..
wrap the pole with duct tape, (i let it sit for a while, not sure if this made a difference).
Should strip the pole bare when unwrapping the duct tape.

Acetone is your friend! It is the only solvent that is safe to use on poles.

Oh yeah acetone will get just about anything off the pole.

I have found for getting many kind of "sticky stuff" off a heat gun help a lot. I don't think a hair dryer gets hot enough. The heat gun then a little WD40 seem to do the trick. Good luck!

I was told by a manufacturer to use mineral spirits because it was more gentle and safer than acetone.

Can anyone confirm this and/or could you tell us which mfr.recommended this?
I am in this process currently and have many to clean, tape, etc...
I have been using acetone to clean off residue covering SN#s to order weight labels for HS vaulters, after that I have several that need to be prepped for rewrap and retape..
