Pole Comparison???

Unread postby beck09luke » Tue Mar 01, 2011 1:35 am

Does anyone know what size pole or poles would be between a 13' 120 spirit and a 13' 140 pacer mystic? I am looking to buy another spirit to fit into the gap, but I'm not sure how the spirits and pacers match up. If anyone knows what would be a smooth size transition pole that would be greatly appreciated.

This one is kind of tough and I have no definite answer because the max grip on the mystic is like 12'11 and the max grip on the spirit is like 12'7. So the first question is where does your athlete grip on the Spirit, if it is right at the max hand hold, then you should probably go to a 13'7 spirit. As far as weight a 13' 120 spirit is pretty close to a 13'7 110 spirit so you next pole is a 13'7 115 (Technically). But as a high schooler, you could probably get away with anything up to a 13'7 125. But if you were just going to stick to the 13' poles then something around 130 would probably be best. It pretty much all depends on what the athlete is currently doing on the smaller pole.

What are the flex numbers on the two poles? 13' is one of the few lengths where the two companies flex their poles on a pretty similar span, so comparing the flex numbers gives you a rough idea, though not perfect.

You could _probably_ get a 13'130 in either brand and be fine.

I know there is a lot more to selecting a pole than looking at a list, but this chart has been invaluable to me:

I have athletes that switch back and fourth very comfortably between Mystic and Spirit in the smaller sizes and cannot tell the difference. At least they have never verbalized that to me. The Mystic will allow a little higher grip because of the band placement but that would be the only deciding factor in my experience. They both flex very close therefore something about the middle would be fine in either pole.

Good Luck
