Hey there vault nuts, does anyone out there have a link to some plans for making a slide box?? THank you all in advance!!

i don't have a link or anything but i've seen someone make one out of 3 pieces of wood in the dimensions of the box and i actually bought one from Pat Manson for a very reasonable price.

The slide box that we found the best success with was just the wooden from of the box. That is, it has no bottom piece of plywood or anything. This cuts down on the friction with the track surface, and also there is no "lip" formed from the plywood. If you can get ou hands on a copy of "A Pole Vaulter's Dream" (ir if you have ever been to Jonesboro) I believe this is the set up that Jeff Hartwig uses. You can load the wood up on the front end to make the unit heavier... I think the unit that we used was 22 pounds or something--heavy enough for an exoerienced vaulter to feel if they planted late. Make sure you pay attention to your bottom arm when you practice with it though...

I just made a slide box out of 4 pieces of wood and am concerned if it will actually slide on rubber runway. Anyone have an idea on how to get it to slide nicely (what material to put on the bottom or something)

I think weight is the issue, and some track surfaces are stickier than others. The one I us is way too heavy for my daughters or even for any of the high school boys. My daughter planted into it and her pole bent before it shot. She just about landed flat on her back and hasn't used a slide box since!

I think a piece of linoleum stapled to the bottom is the thing that would come to mind for smoothing it out.

I've assembled some cheaply using PVC. Your favorite home improvement store should have everything you need. Buy a 8' long piece of PVC pipe and then some angles and caps to fit the diameter you want. I think I got 45 and 22 degree ones. Also pick up the strongest PVC cement you can get. They have held up for me so far but are a little light since they slide really easy. I plan to try and fill them with some sand and see what happens.

Going to bring this back to life instead of starting a new one.

Alright, so I need to build a sliding box that gives a bit of resistance but not too much. Is there any specific way I need to build one or can I just screw a few pieces of plywood or decking-board together?
