well i noticed that our school wasn't willing to pay 605 dollars for a UCS pole tree, so i built one myself in AG and it is just as good, plus it is our school colors, and i was trying to figure out why they sell for so much when metal isn't that expensive and the hooks i used only cost about 10 dollars? All together i added up the price and it cost probably about 50 dollars to make.

That's actually a really good idea. I may do that this summer if we have enough need for it next year.

1. It may have to meet IAAF equipment standards. Getting a piece of equipment certified is pretty expensive. I kinda doubt it though since it's really a piece of fluff equipment.

2. Since 99% of sales of pole trees are to coaches spending a school's money, no one will complain about the price when it's not their money and they can charge what they want. If 99% of potential sales were to private individuals like yourself, the price would probably be $79.

yeah, but hey i guess they can buy a brand new track and pit, but not spend the money to buy a pole tree lol, o well i feel a sense accomplishment anyway.

1 - 8' 2x4
1 - box of large nails
1 - 6' pipe insulation tube

Pretty cheap and still does the job.

our general rule, your either holding the pole, or its in the proper tube. we have 5 full bags of poles, so organization can get a little wild if we don't replace the poles we each use.

I made my own tree this summer to bring to the St. Charles Pole Vault Explosion. I welded it up out of some scrap metal at work this summer. Whenever I get a chance I will try to post a picture of it.

Here's what I built for the High School I coach at:

It cost me about $50.00 for everything, including paint and stencils. Note -> I embedded some fishing line weights into the bottom of the front foot to keep the tree from tipping backwards when kids just threw poles on the tree.
