I just pb'ed 3.45m-11'6 feet and ive been vaulting for around 8 months. Ive went 0m to 3.45m in 8 months. Do you still consider that beginner??? Im born in 1991 and i really want to go elite (vault above 4.25m) sometime before summer of 2009.
I'm using a high end long distance spike right now inteneded for anything 800m-10000m. They weight around 4.7 ounces. Should i keep on using these or should i spend $ on some actual spikes for pole vault?
Spikes I use:

I'm seeing spikes on the market that are close to 10 ounces and the lightest is 7. Im afraid that if i switch to these heavy spikes, ill loose speed. Will the weight of your spikes really affect you? Are 7 spike plates the best? How are reebok spikes, Ive only tried asics and new balance shoes and spikes.
Spikes I'm considering, could you guy give me more advice and info on these and feel free to give me some other spike suggestions
Asics Turbojump - 8.0 Oz
Reebok Global PV/LJ - unknown weight - cheapest ones i found
Reebok JW Foster LJ/PV - unknown weight but im guesssing 9.5 Oz - pretty cheap also
New Balance LJ 1000F - 7.0 oz
Nike PV Lites - 7.3 oz
Nike LJ III or Nike Zoom TJ/PV (heavy- 10 OZ)
Thanks for the help, the best spike for beginning pole vaulters didnt help and this is my first post here.

First off congrats on the PR!! That is awesome!
Also, I would recomend the Mizuno LJ spikes that are white with the yellow bottoms! Those are the sweetest and lightest jump spikes I have ever worn, although the distance spikes like you have are not bad at all! It is whatever you are comfortable with that matters. I have seen many good jumpers not wear Jump spikes, but rather distance or even sprint spikes!! So its more a matter of what fits your feet the best and make you most comfortable!!
