I need to by a pole for summer track. We have alot of different poles at our track but some are prebent and others r not. i hate the prebent poles and i was looking for a brand to get that would be good to start with. if it helps i way 155

I am curious as to why you do not like prebent poles. Of course there are two types!

1. First type is prebent after semi-curing and is prebent the lower 2/3 rds of the pole with the grip area straight. This one is fused in a straight oven and the soft side is found after fusion and placed back on the mandrel for prebending in the same direction as the soft side.
2. The second type is an engineered prebend, where the pole design is calculated and fused in an oven that allows gravity to pull the mandrel in a sagging position but the pattern is made to align with the soft side in the proper position.

Benefits of a prebend;
A. Are that a straight pole is harder to initially bend than a curved or prebent pole.
B. One might be able to use a stiffer pole that is a prebent or curved pole.

Problems with Prebent poles;
A. If you do not complete the plant the prebend or curve and soft side are not in line with your jump and the pole may bend to the side. Same as if you do not line up the soft side.
B. You may experience a strange feeling carrying a prebent or curved pole down the runway?

I see the benefits out way the problems?

How old are the poles that you are jumping on. The only poles ive seen with out a pre bend are some yello cater poles that have to be 30 years old.

I was thinking the same thing - does anyone even manufacture poles that arent prebent anymore?

I think that any new pole you buy is going to be prebent from the factory.

Speaking of prebends, we have a couple altius poles that do not look like there is any prebend. On the label there is a side that says "soft side." When planted should the part of the label that says "soft side" be facing the vaulter??

No, for Altius the softside label faces away from the vaulter.
