australian vaulters

why do there seem to be a few australian vaulters with very russian sounding names? just coincidence or do they all go over there since the competion in russia is just too insane??

Because they come from russia !!

You can have a foreign sounding name and still be called an australian, thats what happens when you migrate to another country. I think you will also find people like tatiana moved over here then started pole vaulting.

Only Three -and one of them -Tatiana Grigorieva -learned to vault in OZ- The other two are Dimitri Markov and Victor Chystiakov, Neither needed to come to OZ to avoid competition - far from it. Dima was from Byelorussia and they fought hard to keep him because he was their number One vaulter. Victor also had some problems getting clearance but both are now OZ citizens - lucky people!! They had gone 1/2 in the Europeans the year before they came and both competed in Atlanta so they could easily have stayed.


They all came along with their coach and families to have a better life - they have got it.
