Does anyone know what i should do so I could keep practicing over the summer? We just started going to district, and state is in may. After that, my coach basically abandons us. should i buy a pit?, i already have my own pole. I can't practice at the stadium because football's training starts in the summer, and they put the mats away.

try and find a club that practices threw the summer

search for an indoor facility near you. i know in jersey we have HIP Athletics and not far out in PA is Vertical Assault... there are alot of drills you can do too... some good all around strength training will never hurt, just make sure you lift correctly...

oh, and if you have the 12 grand or so needed to acquire a pole vault setup, let me know so i can fly out and we'll train together over the summer haha

Well, I live down on the coast in MS, and after searching, the closest place was in Louisiana. I'm still trying to persuade my coach to let me and another vaulter keep the pit out, and I have my own pole, so I don't have to worry about the school poles being locked up.

If you can get the coach to leave the pit out, form your own club through USATF. If I'm not mistaken, that will give the school the liablity protection to allow you to jump on their property and their pit. It's $75 to form your own club and well worth the dough. Many on this forum have more insight than I on the USATF club angle of it. I'm waiting till I get the runway put in before I register mine here at the house. A used pit is not that expensive. If you can find it (usually at a high school near you because it's too small to be legal and too expensive to dispose of) usually you can get it just for taking it away. With the hurricane damage down there on the coast you also may fine parts and pieces at different schools pits that are too damaged for the school to use but would be perfect for your application. Key thing is to keep jumping. You southern boys and girls have a great advantage over the snowbelt kids because you can jump pretty much all year long. Good luck....Later........Mike

We have 3 vaulters down the road from you in Long Beach. We also will lose access to our pit at the end of the school year. We would be interested in forming a club if we can get access to a pit. The other options are to buy a used pit or go to alot of camps and AAU meets in Louisiana.

I'm looking into the whole making it a club thing, and I'm at the usatf site, and can't find anything about registering a club, could someone help me out?

I think i would like to put a pit into my backyard, because I talked to some poeple, and they doubt that the school board would allow it. How does that kind of thing work, and do I even need their permission?

You don't need anyone's permission, but unless you find a good coach to coach you, you will be asking for an injury.

sorry, i was talking about the stadium pit though, the backyard thing is still in hiatus, but would you know if the school board still has any say on whether i can have a club at the track?
