Is this counterproductive???
I am currently training my old high school's pole vaulters, many of them cannot get inverted but their form is pretty good for just learning. But when I make them to Bubka's they can't even do one (we gotta start somewhere.) Since i rock climb, i was thinking that i could put a harness on them and strap it to the bar, so they wount freak out about fallin on their head -which is their main fear- however will this be couterproductive with building their upperbody strength or just a good idea???

Most of everyone on this forum has seen this web link. http://www.bubbapv.com/Pages/bardrill.htm Go look at it, it may be just the thing your guys need. In one of his e-mails to me Doug wrote that it took him quite a while to even do one. He said after about two weeks or so he is able to do several with 5 pound weights on. He said the apparatus only cost about $50 to build but he said it's the best thing he's found for getting upside down. Also take a look at the 2 crossbar jumping that I wrote about on izzystikchiks' thread. Hope this helps. Later...............Mike

Sorry about the period at the end of the address. Bubba was also telling me that you can do a similar excercise on the pull up bar on a weight machine. Shoot, just look at the picure and grab anything that looks similar, a swingset at the park, Parallell bars etc. The one thing that I can't see on the illustration is whether or not the guy has both hands going the same direction or not. When I used to do a similar excercise on the universal machine I held on to the handlebars that were on top of the machine like I would a pole, one over and one under. Then I'd shoot my legs up between the gap between the two handlebars. Trouble with that as a can see it is that it's just an up and down and not up and over exercise. Seems to me that pool vaulting might help your guys also. Anyway, just trying to help. Later.................Mike
P.S. By the way I just edited out the extra period.

This form of "Bubka" can be done on a highbar also. It isn't necessary to have the second bar. You can also help them by pushing up on their shoulders to simulate the upward movement of the pole. They should not drop their feet while doing the excercise and attempt to go into a handstand (ideally).
