DISTRACTIONS

Unread postby uconnvaulta » Thu Jul 15, 2004 4:31 pm

Ok here is a different type of topic, in the sport of vaulting, you need to be completely dedicated. So what do you people consider distractions, Partying, Girls, Friends???? right now for me it seems to be girls and dealing with drama, that stuff is annoying and can be distracting sometimes, what do you guys think??

my school friends. girls. and my family... my dad doesnt want me to vault.. or do anything. he wants me to work and only that. so ya thats n ot too good. adn my mom usually doesnt like me vaulting either cause she thinks ill hurt myself real bad.
could i also say running?. my coach wants me to do distacne as well so that cant be too good for pv and so at prac ill never do a sprinter workout. just distance ones.
i run, therefore im buff.

how does not having money affect your vaulting?

When I go to vaulting practice, the last thing on my mind is my money...

girls is defintely the biggest factor for me... Whenever my girlfriend is with me at school, I HATE the fact that I have to leave for practice... she's sooo hard to leave when I have to go to practice...

Also, at meets, when there's hot girls (and that's basically nearly every girl vaulter), and they're watching you, you tend to be a little anxious to try to do a great job to show off... even if you have a girlfriend or not... you just don't want to look like an idiot and do a lousy jump...

I'd say transferring schools for the second time was a pretty big distraction for me.

So was making training plans for the next year.

If I forget to wear underwear while vaulting, sometimes that can be distracting. The "clap" is also distracting. . . with white people in the crowd trying to keep a rhythm, I don't see how anyone gets pumped up from a clap.

not having money is a distraction because you are thinking about how you are going to get money to travel or food after practice or paying your rent so that you have a place to stay. it seems ridiculous to think that not having any money won't distract a vaulter even if it's just a little bit.

i suppose for a post collegiate vaulter no money would be a distraction, but in high school and college this should be par for the course.
girls tend to be more distracting in practice than meets for myself

As a Mom and if I am stuck in the stands I hate all the "hangers on" who block my view ! If I am an official running the vault I can't stand the girlfriends. My vaulter boys don't like the clapping and people walking too close to the runway. They have rules at workout...no girls...just good music ! in Utah we don't have girls vault...
