Am I too old?

Is 19 too old to start pole vaulting if I want to get to a high competitive level?

You're never too old. Many decathletes who've jumped 17'+ never vaulted until they were a freshman in college.

There are many different levels of high competition (world class, national class, age group, masters, etc.) and as long as you don't have unrealistic expectations you'll become addicted to the sport in about 2 days.

its never too old to start anything if you have the desire to do it, my dad started surfing at age 45!!! 7 years later he still loves it and isnt half bad either... :D

kellie suttle didn't start vaulting till college if i remember correctly...

Kellie started when she was well out of college.

Beth Hinshaw started during her sophomore year at Rice. She's jumped 13'5" while handling the demands of Rice's academic programs.

stacey started vaulting in college also, she was recruited as a heptathlete.

i think the first day u'll be addicted to it. i don't know what it is, but i think its exhilirating to fly high up into the sky. ;) ;)

thats a perfect age to start at. The older you are the more quickly you tend to pick it up. Also older people tend to have bigger stones.....which is important
