So there I was in the airport...

So there I was in the Phoenix airport waiting in baggage claim for my mom's plane to arrive, when I look and I see Greg Hull. I walk over and say hi and ask what he's doing there, and he introduces me to Dimitri Markov. Mr. Markov is traing in Phoenix for about a month with Greg and company. I think that says alot about Sky Athletics knowledge of the vault. Stacy, Nick, Dimitri, and a whole slew of others that are up and coming.

anyway getting back to the airport, it turns out Dimitri's poles didn't make the switch in Sydney, and then they lost his bag getting into Phoenix. He did however have a tennis racket, so I guess he's set. I'd say Dimitri is a pretty cool guy from the small amount of time that I spent with him.

Should be a good thing for Markov. The last thing I read said he was coaching himself...seems like the PV would be the hardest event to coach yourself in.

Check this out:

This is a rare opportunity here in Arizona to see several of the best pole vaulters in the World.

American Record Holder - Jeff Hartwig

'01 World Champion - Dimitri Markov

'03 World Indoor Champion - Tim Lobinger

'01 World Indoor Silver Medallist - Tye Harvey

'97 World Championship Bronze Medallist - Dean Starkey

'04 National Indoor Champion - Toby Stevenson

That is just to name a few. There are Currently eight 19' vaulters comfirmed for the men's, and two 15' + vaulters for the women's.

I would sure love to be there. Looks like one of the best vault fields in the US in some time.

Sounds like Markov will be in for a little more than a month.
