If you live in the midwest, you'll probably know who Max is. Max owned/operated Richey Athletics and made some of the finest mats/standards I've ever seen. He was also our PV official at all out home meets at Purdue and officiated many NCAA championships as well. We was a great guy, a good friend, and a credit to the pole vault community. This just sucks...

Max A. Richey, 71, rural Michigantown, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born July 29, 1938, in Clinton County, to Arlie and Susan (Bowen) Richey. His marriage was to Nancy K. Allen on Aug. 10, 1963.
Mr. Richey was a 1956 graduate of Michigantown High School, where he participated in all sports and was the 1956 Indiana State Pole Vault Champion with a height of over 13 feet. He attended Wabash College on a track scholarship and participated in the 1960 Olympic trials, placing 11th in the nation in the decathlon. He was owner/operator/founder (in 1962) of M.A. Richey Manufacturing that made track and field equipment. He had formerly worked at Chrysler. He was an Indiana State High School track official, NCAA track official and certified athletics official for USA Track and Field. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Max was an avid golfer and greatly loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Tom) Griffy, rural Frankfort, and Teresa (Dick) Perkins, Frankfort; one son, Max A. (Karen) Richey II, Hammond; one sister, Debbie Voorhis, Noblesville; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Green Lawn Mausoleum.
