Bryan "The Wookie" Carrell officially lost his title as "The Hairiest Man in Pole Vaulting" this weekend in Chicago. The title was picked up by a PVPower member we'll just call Sasquatch for now.

I spoke with Sasquatch and, as a result, have begun to evaluate whether Sasquatch has an IQ point for every (or every other) thread of hair.

where do you get nifty poles like that with the candy cane wrap? special order? thats a rugged break.... :dazed:

i'm not sure i'd want to order poles that break in 5 pieces! Any break is bad enough.

the really sad thing is that the pole appears to be brand new. Correct me if I'm wrong.

judging from the lack of wear on the wrapping at the bottom, and new tip, new tape, and the pole cap is still on.

I've only seen a couple brands break in this condidtion, and was victim to a brand pacer carbon breaking on the second jump ever taken on it, which by the way is the only pole I've ever broken.

it just happens sometimes

If there is a flaw in a pole then it will break in two pieces. When the pole breaks in three or more pieces the pole is either way to small for that person or they are taking off like three feet under.

The noise of that break was like a mini-explosion...the loudest pole break I've ever heard. The magnitude of the sound may have been exacerbated by being indoors.

Low - slow - levered like crazy - weight more than pole rating - not sure how much the big spike mark halfway across the pole at one of the breaks had to do with it - the U of I kid who normally jumps on that pole was none to happy with the guy who borrowed it - James had jumped just over 15' on it the day before - but -stuff happens - someone borrows your pole -

PS: The pole was not brand new - James just took good care of it - also if you are almost sitting on the pit and you are still holding on to a 15' pole - you probably need to work on your take off
