Pole vaulting with an IBD, ileostomy/colostomy or J-pouch

Unread postby pvfire » Mon Jun 01, 2009 10:53 pm

So I have been trying to find out how many people out there are pole vaulters of any level who are or have jumped with either a J-pouch, Ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, a permanent or temporary ileostomy/colostomy (basically some type of stoma)? I ask because I have jumped 4.80 while having Ulcerative colitis, now I had a temporary ileostomy placed on May 7th and am going to try to jump soon, and then in a few months will have a J-pouch. I just wonder if there are other vaulters out there in a similar situation.

4.11m I jumped with an ostomy bag off 4 lefts and challenge anyone out there to find someone else who has done that, I would love to meet them. Just jumped for the first time without a colon a few days ago with a J-pouch and was going for a 14-3ish bungee off 3 lefts with a 13-6 140 gripping 12-6, hope someone else out there knows someone debating a colon resection or total colectomy, tell them to do it for a much better life. Ostomy bags and j-pouch's are way better than being sick.

Good to hear that you can still do it... I've had UC for several yrs..... no surgery...... just came off a flare up... it put me down for a couple of months... back on the horse now.....my GI people from University of Michigan have me on some meds... they believe in diet ,excersize and alternative meds..... went 4 yrs without a flare up.... then this past summer I was on the road alot going to street jumps etc.... and neglected my routine... thus it tapped me on the shoulder....only plus thing about it was tremendos weight loss... but back up where I want to be now.... I'll be 64 coming February, feeling pretty good and faster than I was a few years ago..............good topic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
