Unread postby trackmom » Thu Aug 07, 2008 10:26 pm

My tall 10 year old daughter is interested in vaulting. Any one have a suggestion on how she can get started? Thanks!

It really all depends on where you are located and what you have available to you. If there is a track club that offers pole vaulting near you then that would probably be the best option. But not all places offer pole vault, and expecially not at that young of an age. If the club does not offer pole vault then she could start an event like sprint hurdles or long jump to build speed and cordination.

And if its not too late you could always take up some gymnastics to build better body awareness.j

I agree. There will most likely not be anyone that will let her vault near you. Have her get as good a background in gymnastics (especially bars), swimming (for all around body conditioning), and sprinting (for the obvious benefit of speed). And it may be hard to believe, but there is no scientific evidence that says that young children should not be in a resistance program... :star:

Oh, and the search button is your (and her) friend. Play around with keywords and you'll find some really great information.

There are plenty of clubs who would train a motivated, interested, and athletic 10-year-old. Many club are winding down for the season though. Where are you located?
