the process is called rotoscoping it is very easy to do, but also very time consuming. I used Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop. This is how you make the light saber.

And this is how you apply it to each individual frame of the movie. (about 100 frames in that 3 sec clip)

i've never really heard of doing that for the "light saber" effect, it could be possible, but i wouldnt really know how to go about it with any of the software that i have acess to, and i have alot of video editing and animation software

I have always wanted to do it, but frame by frame takes way to long. There has got to be some sort of program that has the ability to lock onto an object or twean.

The tweening method works, but it looks relativly fake. I realize that light sabers arent real to begin with, but comparitivly speaking the frame by frame rotoscope looks much more realistic. also, it doesnt work when the pole begins to bend. It does save alot of time tho.
