Coaches not letting you pole vault outside in the winter?

Unread postby sooch90 » Mon Dec 04, 2006 7:09 pm

Is anyone else having the problem of coaches not letting your pole vault outside in the winter? I mean they're not letting us set up the mats. It's pretty frustrating cause they keep saying things like "oh we'll set them up... next week" or "we'll set them up when we have a week of good weather" or "we'll set them up when the football season is over".

The biggest one is "It's too cold, the poles might explode or something to that extent". Blah, People have told me that the cold doesn't really effect the poles very much, it only effects you. But still, I don't know how to tell them this without sounding disrespectful.

On the other hand, does anyone pole vault even in the cold?

yeah we don't vault right now :-\ but my coach agreed with the poles not being affected by the weather, just you.

idk what to do other than pole runs, slide box outside.

poles are certainly affected by the weather, most specifically temperature.. NEARLY EVERYTHING IS AFFECTED BY TEMPERATURE. to what extent, i cant necessarily tell you, but as an engineer, i can promise temperature is a crucial design factor

There was a topic on this a while ago, but it is only extremes that affect the pole, something like above 105 and below 20 degrees that the pole starts to noticeably change.

Its not the ideal situation, but if you need to vault, vaulting in the cold is better than nothing.

I totally agree, but my coaches don't...

Hmm what are some good drills to do in a long jump sand pit?

Most of the time... NOT ALWAYS but most of the time, high schools are a waste of time... Find an indoor club to vault at... such as... HipAthletics.com (NJ) or http://www.verticalassault.org/ (PA) its warm, they are nice, and will help you more than Highschools in general...

yeah i just got an indoor place for my high scool team and all you have to do is look around hard for some one who isn't using a warehouse and call them up, I got my placed donated to us and it is great as to vaulting out side it depends on where you live in montana not really a realistic option.

blah, hip athletics is too far away (because they moved) and I can't follow any schedule that vertical assault provides.
