Stiff pole prs???

Unread postby KYLE ELLIS » Wed Jun 25, 2003 12:24 am

My coach has been making us start over and go back to basics stiff poles and close grip vaults from about 50-55ft. Getting old but is really helping! What is the highest you have ever gripped stiff poling and made it in? And whats the highest you have ever stiff poled?

From 50-55 ft, the highest I gripped is 13ft and I stiff poled 12 dropping my grip down to 12. My coach said his best ever grip was 13-10 and I think hes jumped around 13 to 13-6 stiff poling( his coach at ou was J.D. Martin the current wr holder in stiff poling). My friend Brandon also did 12 ft. Before working w/ coach my stiff pole pr was 10ft!

Well..............top of my top hand at 12'6" from 47 feet with a swing up (not just gettin in to the pit). This is a height biased question. I am only 5'8" and the taller you are the higher you can grip!!

Yeah I hardly evered stiff poled. But when he taught me the proper take off I could sit over 10 and ended up pring a week later by 2 ft. It takes alot of patience but it really can help your vault, Ill definately be doing it alot in pre season next year!

You probably do what I was doing. I used to try and get back and upside down and all that, you cant . Stiff poling you have to stay down on it, keeping hips back and then aim your feet over the bar, with some timing involved it works!

I dunno never really tried stiff vaulting heights after I learned to bend the pole. My grandpa bamboo vaulted 13-10 in college and was high school state champ with 12-4. I just dont understand how you would even get the pole vertical holdin that heigh unless u could jump and run like an animal. Isn't the bamboo vault record like 15'?

Well Im a 12s 100m and a 5-6 hj, its just getting that attack staying tall, extending fully at the plant and getting your heal leaving the ground timed up w/ the pole hitting the back of the box, all this while keeping your angle- not / (the angle- is for us drive vaulters). This all can help your real vault immensily sp? "You can tell about someones real vault by the way they stiff pole"

we're still working on the whole pole bend thing, but with a stiff pole i gripped about 10'5" and went 8'0"

I hate stiff poleing, I learned to use poles I could get to bend from 2 steps. One two. and was able to jump 10' from a 14' run, that was a while ago but it had bend. I don't see how you can carry over the same technique, there two diffrent types. Use the bend to your advantage.
