Would it really mess with your melons if I said I have seen real live Russians doing this drill?

The pole had a nick in it.

Get over it.

I respect the opinions of Barto and the first-hand knowledge of Ashcraft very much, so I'm "over it" now ... almost. ;)

My coach was old school and taught the big bottom arm ... that was all we knew how to do. The pole broke into two pieces under the bottom hand, which is consistent with a defect in the pole.

HOWEVER ... just becuz this is done "all over the world" it doesn't mean it's a good drill ... and it can TOO EASILY be taken by a coach or athlete that's IMPROPERLY coached and made into something that it was never intended for.

One last thing ... and then I'm done on my rant ... if the pole wasn't PRIED by the bottom arm ... in what I consider an UNNATURAL WAY ... then the "flaw" ... allegedly just under the bottom hand ... wouldn't have caused the pole to break!

Kirk I think you would have died if you saw the drills that the Czech girls were doing when I was in the Czech Republic with Erica.

That's the silver medallist at the 07 World Champs... not a drill I would ever recommend to anyone!

Maybe they just do that drill at meets to throw off the competition!

Actually, I used to do that in HS too! But it wasn't so dangerous ... unlike the Czech girls, I never actually left the ground ... much.

Here's proof: http://www.polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=16117&p=116557&hilit=kirk+bending+pole+Abbotsford#p116557

Ashy, with my first Thermo-Flex pole, I DID think I was warming up the pole by bending it that way! :crying: When I would bend it in the box, it crackled, which gave credence to me thinking that it needed to be warmed up. I don't think a modern pole would ever sound like that!

The Czechs actually try to get their takeoff foot lined up under their BOTTOM hand. I flinch every time they jump.
