Helmet cam
Helmet cam
I got a helmet cam for christmas for getting my dirtbike trips on film. My question is do you think it would be cool and safe to use in pole vaulting. I was thinking about not useing a helmet and just strapping it to my head, and maybe using the handlebar mount to attach it to that spot above the tape that you aren't allowed to hold. Good idea or no? BTW it would be strictly used in practice, I don't want to look like an idiot with a camera strapped to my head at a real meet.

It's been done. Jan does have some footage on Sky Systems II. I also know a UT vaulter (Scotty Miller maybe???) did it back in the early 90's.
My suggestion for the best view and safest way would be to mount it on top of a helmet if it's not heavy(might want to wear a neckbrace to avoid whiplash or breaking your neck ) If you have it directly on your head and you somehow land on your head, that would suck. Also, mounted on top of the pole wouldn't give you a very clear shot, plus it might hit the ground.

Erm, I would try it, but then I know I would sort of be focused on the bar most of the time (badbadbad!). Slowly learning not to do that though...
Have fun with it

I've decided that it will work much better as a bar cam. That's not going to stop me from doing both though! I also got an idea to put it near the box like one of the Olympics commercials. The day that I can implement my plan is nearing! I just have to give the freshies and other new people a few days to learn how to vault.
