What is the highest clearance you have seen in person?

You make an interesting point about the highest you've seen in a competition you were in. Though the elites blow these away now, for us mere mortals they are important. I was in the 1976 USTFF final in Witchita when Earl Bell jumped a WR 18' 7 1/4" by a long way. I got my first 17' (5.20m) that day but Earl should have got the first 19'. By the time they got those 60+ year old officials up that ladder to measure and confirm the world record, it was too late for any more jumps. But from the infield it looked like he got the WR by over a foot. Terry Porter also made 18' 1" that day. Both jumps (and mine) on Blue Skypole "Bananas", courtesy of Bruce Caldwell, now of Essx.
