HUTCHINSON —
A Hutchinson Community College student injured while pole vaulting remains hospitalized in critical condition.
College spokesman Steve Carpenter said Monday that Chase Kear is in a drug-induced coma but is showing signs of improvement.
Carpenter says the 19-year-old student has not made any steps backward since Friday.
Kear is a sophomore from Colwich and a member of the college’s track and field team.
He was taken by helicopter Thursday from Gowans Stadium to a Wichita hospital after suffering a head injury at practice.
