i remember those days.... just learning to bend the pole... or what to do "when" you bent the pole....
who were these guys??
also... this shows what an influence better equipment had, poles and pits, in the events progress..
allways great talent... even before fiberglass... but the poles and pits allowed the athlete to "open up".. and test the limits with a safe place to lant...

I am not sure I agree with you. I don't think we were smart enough to think that our "fine" pits were not safe. I remember that it took only two people to drage our pit out from the shed. We were sure glade it was the best around.
