Howdy all!
I'm a member of 5 other message boards, but this is the first one that has nothing in common with the others. I even moderate on one of them now.
Former vaulter -- need to drop a bunch of weight before I even think of attempting it again -- but a lifetime enthusiast of the sport! My main man, and the reason I'm even on this board, is the one, the only VaultnGus. I've known him since the 7th grade, and he was the Best Man in my wedding. Yup, he's the one who got me into track, and of course, vaulting. We've spent countless hours together watching meets, both on TV and live. We competed together in high school, and during summers in college with a local track club. We went to the '96 Olympics (and the Trials), and the Goodwill Games in '98 with him. Heck, I even contributed some results from the GGs in his PVWAtG newsletter, which I'm sure many of you receive. Yup, I'm that Shake.
Anyway, I thought this would be a good way to get started here. Right now, I don't visit this board much, but that could change!
Feel free to ask (nearly) any question(s) you want! See y'all around!

Hi Dee Ho Shake, I too have been away from this sport for a long time. But I got to thinkin' rather than be out of shape and croakin' from a heart attack I'd start makin' my way back to doin' this again. Doug Sparks has been a huge help in keeping me focused and going down the right reconditioning road so I don't hurt my self. The folks on this web site are teaching me all about the new terms in the sport and equipment. I'm going to start my comeback to vaulting on my 1550 Cat-a-pole that I bought in 1969 for $54. Hardest thing about this is the time it's going to take before I can even think about getting off of the ground, but I'm determined to do it again. So that's my story, At 53 I should know better, but hey, the masters indoor nationals 3rd place was only 12'5"............I can do that..............I hope. Anyway, welcome aboard, these are some very nice folks on this site and I still can't figure out how Becca gets everything done that she does on this site and still have a life. Later Shake.........Mike
