You thoughts as we head in to districts?

Unread postby Hickman » Tue May 06, 2014 9:51 am

There are two links to her vaults
One is a make at 10'6" not her best vault as she back slides over it. The other is an attempt at 11'
She is on a six step run. Mid mark of 39 and take off of 8'8" but some times it is closer to 9. She is on a 12' USC holding at the required 11'6". Test weight is 150 she is at 130ish pounds. We have spent sometime on her bottom arm at take off to help with pole movement and penetration. She has a good swing but is not closing out at the top as fast as I like an we are missing the turn, pull, push

I would like a fresh set of eyes and some other pointers one her take off bottom arm and how to keep her on the top longer.

Thanks

She is planting a full step early, which makes it pretty impressive that she is able to do what she's doing.

When the plant is a full step early like this, her body is automatically out of time, and she is forced to decelerate. It is also nearly impossible to create space at the plant, because she starts and stops and restarts her plant halfway through the motion. She will never be able to swing the hips all the way to her hands from a long run if the plan motion is out of time.

This is not a quick fix. She needs to drill the 3 step plant in slow motion and then at various speeds from various distances. For most vaulters this takes several weeks to fix, but if you give her the homework to drill it every night wih a stubby, she might correct it in as little as 2 weeks.
