Re: straight pole jump
1)stronger bottom arm at take off - not a block and not straight either...
the purpose is to initiate pole speed/movement to vertical... at takeoff from 3Ls, your step should be slightly out IMHO and definitely not under...
2)If the hands are strong and forward at takeoff... then they will be pushed back when the pole contacts the box; subsequently, the shoulder girdle will "'open"... allow this to happen i.e. do not "block" with sitff shoulders
3)following the open shoulder girdle... "TAP" and swing trail leg... the tap involves closing the shoulder girdle by moving the hands/arms forward quickly/slightly... not a row
I just watched the video once and it seems that you hit the take off and invert by pulling - this is ok in the proper sequence and should happen following the "TAP"...
IMHO...

Re: straight pole jump
practice steps 1,2 and 3 without the invert at first... if all goes well, you should develop greater pole speed in the takeoff and tap phases which will require you to raise your grip...
then add the swing to inversion/popup - and then work in the turn/bar clearance...
once you are on a bending pole you will have slightly more time in the tap phase -

Re: straight pole jump
Narrow your grip by half.
Start raising your grip a fist at a time until your taking full jumps from that run.
Than add plant.
And cover those standards.
