extending off top

Unread postby CouraGe » Sun May 11, 2008 5:09 pm

had a meet at southern track classic this past week, Im holding at about 14 feet form 6 step. the pole is a 14'6 145lbs pacer, my body weight is around 130. This is a clip from mile stat so it has other people in it also, im the first guy that vaults in this vid. Im wondering if my hand grips are too wide and what i can do to get more vertical and extend and fly off the pole. The first jump is at 13'6 and the second is at 14'. Thanks in advanced.

well from what i can say and see from that angle is that you should work on your left arm more.
and the trail leg a little bit more extended straight. you get a good shoot though~
well thats my point of view

They both looked like quality jumps, I would do drills that help work on your pull-turn. Turning around the pole will place your body extended vertically on top of the pole ready to pike over the bar as opposed to turning away from the pole and over the bar horizontally. Bubka drills are great, as are apparatus drills.
What is nice about this sport is that I am responsible for most everything.

Your swing is really weak at the chord and then you sort of just wait for the pole to unbend instead of working ahead of it.

Yeah basically... Get on a highbar and that should clear up. Then you'll clear more up of a bar! (Bad joke, I know...) :o
